Podcast Help

I’d like to ask my dedicated readership a very big favor. I’m starting a podcast with my friend Robert Cooper. The challenge is determining the direction. In a lot of the fields we are familiar with there are already some great podcasts (like the Java Posse). We can’t decide if it should be programming centric, cover technology issues, or discuss things that are more future oriented (driving cars, space travel, etc.).

So we’d like your help. We recorded three different podcasts with different topics. If you can spare the time to listen to them we’d love to get your feedback. You can email me at joshua at marinacci dot org.

A warning, these are very rough. I’ve barely edited them, haven’t added music and credits, or trimmed them. For the final podcast we are targeting 30 minutes. Anything longer feels like something no one would listen to.

Thanks!

Hi Josh, good content. I liked #3 the best. #2 was also good and #1 was kind of too “thick” to make an enjoyable podcast. #2 seems more like a science podcast, which if your comfortable with discussing the content, go for it. For #3, you guys definitely know your tech and I think would make a good podcast.

I like how your both involved with mobile development and how you tie that in to many of the topics.

    Looking forward to hearing more.

For me the 002 and 0003 links open the same MP3 as in 001, despite the URL pointing to a different file.

Hey Josh, great stuff! I think you guys should go ahead and record some more. I wouldn’t be too concerned about sticking to a particular topic for the podcast as a whole – I’m quite happy listening to geeks discuss interesting stuff, and I know I’m not the only one. You can still pick a single overall theme within each episode just as you did in these samples. Maybe you can just rate them on how technical they are so that listeners can choose for themselves per episode?

Keeping it at half an hour is definitely a smart move, most podcasts tend to get a bit long after that. Certainly after an hour, but most do much sooner.

    Have fun! :-)
